Help Us Help Others

Join the GATE Family: Your Passion Fuels Our Mission!

Welcome, and welcome back, to our incredible community of GATE volunteers! Your dedication is the heartbeat of our organization, enabling us to reconnect humans with the healing powers of Nature and protect Trees and their ecosystems.

From the majestic Southern Sierra Mountains of Central California to urban green spaces worldwide, your efforts ensure Guardians and Trees Thrive, thanks to volunteers like YOU! GATE is situated within the intersection of Tehachapi Mountains, Sierra Nevada Mountains, San Joaquin Valley and Mojave Desert in Central California.

Wherever you are on Earth – Guardians need your help. Work remotely on own schedule! Volunteers must be self-motivated and commit to strive toward excellence.

How You Can Make a Difference – 3 Ways to Help

Ready to get your hands dirty, share your skills, or connect from your couch? Here’s how you can help GATE nurture nature and empower Guardians:

1. Take Tree Action!

At GATE, we empower you to Steward Trees in your community with our TreeForce projects – such as Wild Native Tree Re-Seed (WNTRS) and urban tree interventions. You can help us identify and support trees in need.

Our WNTRS program volunteers join a collaborative effort to collect wild seeds and associated mycorrhizal fungus, foster seedlings, and work with partners to reintroduce seedlings to original tree family environments.

Our Urban Tree Effort volunteers identify needy Trees in their communities. TreeForce volunteers help add trees to our database, then help coordinate needed approvals and perform effective and safe interventions.

2. Find Your Fit! GATE Volunteer Opportunities

We offer a wide range of roles to match your skills and passion. Explore our key volunteer opportunities below:

Photo/Video-grapher Volunteer: Capture the beauty and impact of GATE! We seek talented photographers and videographers to document our work, events, and wilderness activities, showcasing Nature’s true splendor within Kern County. Your recordings will be used across social, digital, and print media. (Volunteers submit photos/videos electronically, agreeing to release usage rights with proper credit to G.A.T.E.)

Nurture Nature Volunteer: Get hands-on with environmental education and conservation! Participate in Naturehood enhancements such as replace missing or damaged plant/tree identification signs, and assist with Tree or environment education. You can also help with yard/garden upkeep for those with waning abilities. Join GATE’s annual group clean up efforts the 3rd Saturday of April and September. Solo Naturehood or roadside trash pickups volunteers welcome year round.

Outreach / Public Relations Volunteer: Be a voice for Nature and Guardians! Help us spread the word about GATE’s vital work by reaching out to potential donors and volunteers. We’re looking for upbeat, outgoing individuals eager to connect with people online through social media and through news media speaking engagements. Tasks may include drafting press releases and educational materials.

Bea, a GATE’s event volunteer, talks about her experience. “I was nervous at first, but my tasks were explained clearly and even timed. Talking with attendees was fun. I think I learned as much as the ones attending. I can’t wait until next time.

Lou loves our support services. “This has been a wonderful experience…it helps me cope. Sharing…gives me a boost, a little relief from it all…”

Martin, a repeat Mobile STEM Lab recipient, says “This is so fun. Can I show my friends? …Wow, I want to learn more about that.
